A Message from Mama Fela and Mama Aaliyah
For over four decades, Mama Fela has dedicated her life to educating, empowering, and uplifting generations of Black and brown children and their families in Bed-Stuy. Her vision and unwavering commitment have shaped Little Sun People into the culturally rich, nurturing, and academically excellent institution it is today.
Now, as she concludes her tenure as Executive Director, we invite you to join us in celebrating her extraordinary legacy at Mama Fela’s Farewell Fete on Saturday, March 29 at the historic Weeksville Heritage Center.
During the 2023-2024 school year, Mama Fela has been guiding the transition of LSP’s new Executive Director, Mama Aaliyah —LSP’s first student. This special evening is both a tribute to her lifetime of dedication and an opportunity to support LSP’s future.
The night will begin with a VIP reception featuring a powerful conversation on the importance of building and sustaining our own institutions—especially in this moment—for our community’s healing and success. Join us for an evening filled with love, purposeful reflection, and a chance to ensure LSP’s continued impact for generations to come.
Let’s send Mama Fela off with the love and honor she so richly deserves!
